Embrace Uncertainty

A Thought for the Week

Question mark in the sky "Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security." ~ John Allen Paulos

  1. Well now if those three quotes don’t just smack me between the eyes, I don’t what could right now!
I’ve been a slave to my expectations for the last four or five weeks, and I’d like to release them now. I’d also like to embrace the unknown wholeheartedly.
Conceptually I know all of these things, but living them always proves a touch more difficult. Must be why I keep manifesting opportunities to try walking my talk!
    Happy Monday!

  2. I’m not a big fan of uncertainty, but it really does more harm than good not to embrace it, huh? Thanks for the great quotes!

    Happy Monday Megan!
I know exactly what you mean. I often find it difficult to live from the space I know to be for my highest good. That’s actually why I started doing these quotes to begin with – to provide others *and myself* with reminders ;-)
Knowing and Doing – two different kettles of fish, eh!
The third quote is from Susan Jeffer’s book Embracing Uncertainty and I’d recommend it.
    Hi Dani,
I’m much more accepting of uncertainty than I am a fan ;-) The accepting has come from necessity, because we’re really wasting alot of energy if we struggle with it. And happily, I have become much more comfortable with it in recent years.

    Hilda,
That quote on expectations…wow, it’s really making me think deeply. It’s very philosophical (right up my alley!)…. I’m really thinking about expectations, and what they mean now…

  5. Hilda says:

    Hi Lance,
yes, expectations can truly shackle us. Most of my disappointments in life came from expectations not being met, and many of my joys from simply not having any and being open to what unfolded…
Hope you’re well. Sorry I haven’t been by your blog recently, I’m away and won’t be online much till next week. But l’ll be looking forward to a big catch-up ;-)

I love it. Honestly it has taken some time to embrace uncertainty. By labeling myself as an “overthinker” or a “control freak” I automatically resist uncertainty.
Through meditation I’ve been able to observe these thought patterns in my head, see them for what they are, and let them pass.
Nice quotes, thanks for the reminder :)
