About Me
I'm older than I look! (relevant only because I have the life experience to go with it)
Professionally, I come from a background of fundraising in the voluntary sector, followed by corporate sponsorship. I came to coaching while trying to figure out what to do next! I read about it, I experienced it, and finally I decided it's what I wanted to do. So I completed a diploma in Life & Business Coaching in 2003, and I'm continually working on my coaching skills in accordance with International Coaching Federation requirements. I'm based in Dublin, Ireland, but as most coaching takes place over the phone, geography isn't an issue!
Personally, I am a person who used to remain solidly and stubbornly within her comfort zone, but who now deliberately seeks to stretch herself. As a result, I am now alot more willing to try new things and in the last few years have added to my hobbies activities I would never have dreamed of participating in, including kayaking, surfing and skiing, all of which I now love.
I also love coaching! I love how empowering the coaching process is, and the transformative effect it has on people and how they live their lives. Coaching has transformed how I live my life. I don't worry about stuff any more, I look for the silver lining, and I always trust that no matter what, things will work out, because I believe that I have the resources within me to find a solution to whatever difficulty I encounter.
With my clients, I aim to help them find their own inner resources: the positive outlook so necessary to move forward in difficult times; the confidence to follow their dreams; energy and enthusiasm to sustain them along the way; the courage to walk their own path; the determination to live their very best life.
What my clients, friends and former colleagues tell me is that I'm a great listener, honest, trustworthy, empathic, open, sincere, caring, sharing, kind, creative, confident, optimistic, imaginative, individualistic, courageous and great fun.
What I would say about myself is that I'm encouraging and non-defeatist. I am always positive, even when most people would expect me to be fed up. That is because I have learned that happiness is internal.
Contrary to what most of us believe, our external environment does not dictate our happiness. In fact, it is our reaction to our environment that determines our emotional well being! And that is something you can learn to control.
Even if you don't know how you're going to pay your mortgage from month to month, or you really hate your job or your working environment, or whatever else it is that is going on for you, you can still be happy while you work your way through these challenges. I know, because I've been there.
For you to be happy right now is much easier than you think. And when you find yourself in that place, achieving your goals will become a bonus rather than the means to your happiness. Just wait and see!
